Whether you are a seasoned "Yogi" or have never tried a practice, this workshop will be useful to you personally and will offer helpful ideas to  bring back to your colleagues.  The presentation will offer a discussion of the central nervous system (nothing too technical!) and talk about how stress revs up the Sympathetic Nervous System, and how we can purposefully call up the Parasympathetic Nervous System in order to improve mental and physical  health.  The yoga philosophy, movement, breathing and mental focus practices bring scientifically documented shifts to  brain chemistry that benefit health. Our focus will target lifting low moods and calming anxious minds.  These are tools we can use in the office, sitting in traffic, or anywhere.  They are nothing short of miraculous because anyone can do them and they are effective, but they do take practice. Dress comfortably to move if you want, however movement is not required in this workshop; people are welcome to sit, listen and observe.  The movement aspects of the workshop will be gentle.   Bring a towel or a yoga mat if you'd like to  get on the floor - this is optional.

About our Presenter:

Heather Main, M.Ed.,  is the owner of Main Wellness Works. Heather has worked in health and fitness education since 1989.  Her favorite part of her work is helping people build the skills and motivation to take good care of themselves through physical activity, healthy eating and stress management in order to optimize mental health and quality of life. Heather is a reformed couch potato and loves to eat, so she "gets it" when people are challenged in these areas. She's a fitness trainer with a private studio in South Burlington where she works with individuals and small groups on weight lifting and Yoga.  She brings fitness and health education programs to  workplaces, too.
